As others have reported, after upgrading to a version of Tableau which includes the "Control visibility using value" option selected, extracts may start to fail with an error similar to the one below:

  • Connectionless Failure ( status code = 10000, java.nio.file.FileSystemException: C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server\data\tabsvc\temp\backgrounder_1.<version>\extracts\xxxx\federated_xxxx.hyper -> C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server\data\tabsvc\dataengine\extract\xx\xx\xxxx\federated_xxxx.hyper: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. )

The following workarounds have been confirmed to work on a single 2022.3.3 Tableau Server environment:

  1. Option 1: Deselect the "Control visibility using value" option and republish the workbook.
  2. Option 2: Publish the data source to Tableau Server, and connect the workbook to the published data source. This allows you to use the "Control visibility using value" option.
