I'm looking for a way to auto-populate data from a Tableau report into an Excel sheet, rather than having to go through the steps of exporting each time.
Is this possible - and can it be done on a schedule?

No, not at all. Tableau is visualisation software not ETL software.
What you really want to do is find out where Tableau is querying the data from and link Excel to that.
