I always have people (viewers or explorers) coming to me asking what is the logic of the data source? For people who want to dig deeper, they want to know more about the data that generated the viz: how are the views joined in the data source, or if it's a custom SQL query, what is the logic.
For people to see the data source definition, they need to have a creator license on Tableau Online to see the "Edit Data Source" button, and then they need the logins for the database connection actually see the definition. Is there another way to achieve this? Or what is the best practice here?
For our company, we used to use Looker, and all the users had access to see the LookML and trace it all the way to what table/view is used from the database to generate the viz. Just wondering what's the best way to give users the visibility on Tableau Online.

This is one of the ways that Tableau is profoundly different from Looker. There is literally no way to give them that visibility in Tableau Online. They need Desktop to do it.
What you describe tells me that you need hep establishing a governance process that includes those curious people in the process.
