I have had this error code pop up on multiple occasions when I try to manually sort something on a worksheet. To be specific, it only happens when I just try to click and drag to sort, if I click on the dimension and go into sort manually it sorts fine. It doesn't happen all the time and if I just save the workbook and open it up again, it will sort properly but that's annoying and it also will happen again later. I have had the issue happen when the data source is a live Excel document, data extract, and live connection to a Tableau Server data source.
I was on 2021.3.1 when the error started but have since updated to 2021.4.2 (21214.21.1217.2252 specifically). and the issue persists.
I'd upload a workbook if I knew how to replicate the issue but it doesn't always happen and it doesn't seem to be my data since it has happened on a myriad of data sources.
Anyone else have this issue or know what is causing it? While typing this up I realized a workaround is at least clicking on the dimension -> Sort -> Manual so I guess that will work for now.
This sounds like a bug - thanks for telling us. Please open a support case and share your logs that show the problem so we can investigate and fix this.
