Hello all,

 

On the Tableau Server, I am often seeing an error under 'Background Tasks for Non Extracts' where several times a day the server fails in this task: "Warming up external query cache on data change"

 

I have investigated a solution on the Tableau site, which suggested that I should either turn off caching or place a threshold on it. Link is below.

However, I need guidance on how to effectively investigate why this is happening. The error message reads as follows:

External query cache warmup job com.tableausoftware.nativeapi.dll.TableauException: Some workbook views failed external query cache warmup. Please see the logs for more information.

 

I am unsure about which log file will hold relevant information, and which folder I should look for. I am looking at all files within 'tabsvc' > 'logs' and have looked at this article in order to interpret what each log file is for:

The server reports that there is no issues warming up the query caches throughout the day, but a series of errors (approx 4-10) occur in the same time (approx 4am) every day. If I can be pushed in the right direction in understanding why this is happening for this specific time slot, it would be much appreciated!

    hi Monica.  I observed this same behavior and sifted through the logs and couldn't find anything meaningful.

     

    I opened a case and here's the final response I got back.

    Also, I saw that a patch release came out on 4/23, and I'm not sure if this addresses this one.  There is mention of cache, but not sure.  Tableau Server 2019.1.3 | Tableau Software

     

    For now, we're just living with it as it doesn't seem too disruptive.
