Hi,

my team has multiple workbooks that use the same Access database. If a workbook was refreshing on Tableau Server and another workbook in Tableau Desktop happens to be refreshing the Access Database extract at the same time, one of them will fail with the following error message:

Access Database error: "Database error 0x80004005: The Microsoft Office Access database engine cannot open or write to the file [file location]. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data."

I found this: https://kb.tableau.com/articles/issue/error-0x80004005-cannot-open-write-to-file which attempts to use the above error message, but I don't believe my issue is related to access permissions and the file path as both workbooks can be successfully refresh if no other workbook is refreshing at the same time.

According to Ways to share an Access desktop database - Access  I believe the access file needs to be opened in shared mode by Tableau Server/Desktop. Is it possible to set this up for Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server?

Do you have the default open mode set to "Shared"? What about the default record locking?
