Our old server Tableau 2019.2 crashed (due to a bad Windows update) and rather than try to recover the server we have opted to move to a new one and restore from backup.

I installed Tableau 2020.1 on the new Server. We use AD integration on both servers.

The new server states that I do not have sufficient "Explorer" licenses. Generally I remove or reassign server roles via the server > Users area. However, that is not available to me on the old server. Within my customer portal, I have the one "Explorer-Server" license key which I can unassign and reassign, but I'm not sure if that would work or if it would affect the restore process on the new server, which I'm told includes users and groups.

Does someone have some experience with this? (Note: I do have a ticket with support open for a restore issue, and mentioned this there, but have not heard back yet, and it is off topic for that support ticket. Since the forum is generally faster than support, thought I would try this route to enable us to at least get something back up on the existing build.)

Is the old server usable at all? You would want to run a tsm deactivate if you can (server doesnt need to be running, just available to accept command line arguments).

Beyond that, you need to engage Tableau to see what they can do to fix the product key for you.

If you havn't put your product key in yet (I assumed it was giving you an error). I would do that first. That should give you the same roles/access you previously had.
