Refresh Live Excel data source in Tableau Desktop

Hello,

 

I am working with a live excel data source on tableau desktop. I want to refresh the data and I'm having a hard time. I don't have access to tableau server. Is there a way for me to refresh the data source?

    Hi Shwetha,

     

    If you have a live connection to an Excel file in a packaged workbook (*.twbx) then Tableau Desktop creates a shadow extract of the Excel file so that the data can be packaged into the *.twbx file.

     

    To fix this:

    1. Navigate to the Data Source tab

    2. Navigate to Data > {Data Source Name} > Edit Connection...

    3. In the Open dialog, if you are hitting this issue then Tableau Desktop will be pointing to a file in a temp folder. In the Open dialog, find the original Excel file and click Open

     

    To avoid this issue in the future either A) connect live to Excel and ONLY save workbook as a *.twb, or B) extract the connection to the Excel file and save as a *.twbx file.
