I'm working on some basic graphs from a CSV data source. I had been working on it for several days, updating data in the file and then refreshing into tableau without any issues. Today, I made some small changes to existing cells in the data source, refreshed the connection, and now Tableau has added a bunch of non-existent columns labeled F111, F112, etc to F137. It has also started incorrectly reading cell values. It seems to be switching data at random, numeric columns are showing data from text columns and vice versa.
Any ideas of what happened? I didn't any column orders or names, just updated some of the values.
You should also check your text import settings by clicking the menu on the text file in the join diagram and choosing text file properties. Tableau deduces them the first time you connect and usually gets it correct. But if you change your file significantly, the settings might be wrong.
My guess is that you need to set the Text qualifier to " (double quote).
