Tableau 10.2: It looks like my log.txt in My Tableau Repository\Logs hasn't been updated since June. Under what conditions does this get updated? I'm using Performance Recorder and File | Repository Location is set to "My Tableau Repository".

    Hi Ray,

A new log.txt file will be created when Tableau Desktop is launched for the first time after installation. After that, until the log folder is renamed, Tableau Desktop will relaunch with the same log folder and file and continue to write to the same file. Now opening multiple instances of Tableau Desktop can cause multiple logs to be created, as it will create a log for the simultaneously open instances in separate log files.

This is why Tableau Support will ask for clean logs, as it assures that the log file is only capturing the one instance of Tableau Desktop, and not multiple.

I would double check that when viewing the files in the windows explorer, that you are seeing a view which displays the 'Last Modified Date' for the file and not just the 'Created Date', the last modified should display a value associated with the last opening of Tableau Desktop.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers

    Byrne, Patrick
