force Tableau to default to "custom value list" vs "select from list" in values selector

Hi Tableauvians,

 

When I'm creating a filter against a giant table, Tableau (8.2) sometimes it decides to use the "Select from list" option vs the "Custom Value List" option.

 

"Select from list" is issuing a query that is taking over a minute to get the filter list back.

 

I want to force Tableau to open the "Custom Value List" option by default.

 

Is there something I can set in the client, or in the TDS file to make this happen?

    What do you want a screen shot of?

     

     

    This is the screen I'm referring to. When "Select from list" issues the query it takes a LONG time to run, and then an even longer time to render. I would like a way to force the "Custom Value List" to be the default so the query is never executed. I can alter the TDS if necessary.
