The default appears to be that a Tableau-branded email is sent out to new users to welcome them and link them to the user setup page. Can that email be modified in any way, or is it possible to circumvent this process by using 3rd party authentication?

As a work around, if you have the list of users, you can use TABCMD to send the email. Take a look at the following to get you started.
