I'm connecting to a data table where the data changes quite frequently (lines are added, and fields within existing lines are amended).
Is there any way in Tableau to track the changes on lines and addition of lines on a weekly/monthly basis? Or would this need to be archived on the database with a date/time stamp to allow me to track changes in the Tableau report?

There is no versioning capabilities within Tableau that I am aware of, but as you say you can create solutions to track the changes (i.e. creating a column iwht time stamp CURRDATE() as an example) which then you can use Tableau to visualize it.
