How to refresh an Excel file datasource on a cloud-based Tableau Server?

Question

I'm trying to find a way to host somewhere an Excel file (which could be easily updated eg by FTP means) and have my AWS-based Tableau Server use it as a datasource for a worksheet.

I'm aware of the UNC trick from Tableau Desktop, but I guess that supposes Tableau Server is on the same network as Tableau Desktop, which is not the case (We use a VPN to publish a project from Desktop to Server).

Hi Axel, you could use Google Sheets (instead of Excel) and then you don't even need to update via FTP. Or you could use Box, DropBox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the advice: I didn't know such connections were possible with Tableau Server! However, I might have 2 issues with such solutions: we need to be able to push the data programmatically, I'm not sure it is feasible with Sheets? the data is quite sensitive, depending on such services can be a liability (but this is more an issue I'll have to see to on my own :) )
