map data layer selection on dashboard

I am developing a relatively simple dashboard that plots sales by zipcode on a map of the US.  I would like to use the built-in data layers feature, but want the end user to be able to select the layer content (population/households, etc.) as well as the granularity (state, zip).  Can these data layer parameters somehow be added to a dashboard to allow this?  Thanks.
