Hi all,
I am moving from Tableau Desktop to Tableau Server and i have a grey zone on how the tde are managed by the server.
Let say i have the following situation;
Workbook1 - connect to mySql - save extract as \files\Extracts\1.tde
Workbook2 - connect to \files\Extracts\1.tde - publish as 2.twbx
Workbook3 - connect to \files\Extracts\1.tde - publish as 3.twbx
I now want to publish on Server instead.
Considering that the server have rw access on \files\Extracts.
When I publish Workbook1 on server, on a refresh, will the extract still be saved on the \files\Extracts\1.tde ? or on the server itself ?
Should i first change the location of the Extract and saved it directly on the server instead ?
Is there a way to daisy chain the refreshes in the Schedule, to make sure that the refresh of workbook2-3 wont fail because an already open 1.tde ?
I am sure this is a common situation and i would greatly appreciate having your input on this, to make sure i start on the right foot.
Thanks
Michel
You want to publish the TDE to Tableau Server as a Data Server data source.
Working with Tableau Data Extracts | Tableau Software
- The most robust and efficient way to share a TDE and its changes is by publishing the TDE to Tableau Server as a Data Server data source. Because a Data Server data source can support multiple workbook connections, whatever changes made to the data source can be republished and then will automatically be available to the workbooks that are connected to it. Refer to the About Tableau Data Server topic in the Server Online Help for more information.
