Hi All,
New to tableau and looking for help with breaking sales dollars out by date. I have a column which has Invoice date in format mm/dd/yyyy and a column that has sales dollars. I've found it's easy to break out by years and quarters. Wondering what the easiest way is to breakout these values into YTD columns and also month columns so that I can compare YTD performance as well as performance during a month compared to the same month from prior years. Is it easier if I have the sales in these columns before uploading to tableau? Sorry if this is a common issue I couldn't find a thread specific to this. Please link if you know one.

in your post you are suggesting that you have a short wide table - similar to a spreadsheet v a tall thin dataset - which are preferred for Tableau and all other database oriented system by pivoting the data
Pivot Data from Columns to Rows - Tableau then the YOY becomes a table calc
