Hello,

Does anyone have experience to connect to Amazon Athena( live connection) from Tableau Desktop?

From Tableau Desktop, one dashboard  connects to Amazon Athena, and returned 33000 records with 12 columns. From Tableau Performance Recording, it indicated that it took 50+ seconds to execute the query, but in Amazon Athena console, the query just took 5 seconds to complete.

Any idea why there's such difference?

(Performance Recording workbook and Amazon Athena query history attached).

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

Shirley

I've seen comments that the Athena JDBC driver maxes out at 1,000 rows per transfer and has to "reconnect". The multiple transfers may be the issue. I've seen Tableau run really fast with much larger data sets; it's not Tableau.
