Map marks visible in Tableau Desktop disappear in published Tableau Public dashboard

I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot a strange issue. 

 

I created a dashboard in Tableau Public that maps Florida metro areas using circles sized by a measure. In Tableau Desktop, all metro areas appear correctly, including the North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota metro area. 

 

However, after publishing the dashboard to Tableau Public (and also when embedding it on my website), one or more metro area marks disappear. The most obvious example is the North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota metro, which is visible in Desktop but not in the published version. 

 

A few details:

  • The underlying data is present.
  • The missing metro area appears correctly in Tableau Desktop.
  • The issue occurs in Tableau Public itself, not just on my website embed.
  • I've experimented with dashboard sizing (range sizes, different minimum/maximum dimensions, taller dashboards, etc.) without success.
  • The missing mark is geographically close to the Tampa metro area, so I suspect it may be related to overlapping marks or differences in how Tableau renders the map after publishing.
  • The dashboard uses a map with circles sized by a measure and colored by percentage change.

Has anyone encountered a situation where marks appear in Desktop but disappear after publishing? Is there a way to force Tableau to display all marks, prevent overlapping marks from hiding one another, or ensure the published version renders identically to Desktop? 

 

I've attached screenshots showing the difference between Desktop and the published version. 

 

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I noticed you had another workbook that is not using Latitude and Longitude.  Using Tableau 2026.1, as soon as I open the workbook, I notice there are five unkown locations:

    Alternatively, you may right click, and then click on edit locations:

    Then, I clicked on reset matches, because your original values are identified correctly by Tableau:

    Then I click in OK. 

     

    Finally, the values are recognized, and I have more points.

    Finally, testing in Public, everything seems to work.
