My CRM architect is asking if the MCC User permissions can be reduced. It sounds like this is further complicated by Distributed Marketing. Has anyone else reduced their MCC user below System Admin without causing problems?

Yes, the responsible Admin can create customizable permissions and assign them to the respective users.
Salesforce does not recommend editing the platform's default permissions, so you have the option to create your own.
