Hello Trailblazers! We are in the early stages of exploring PDF document generation use cases and are getting a little lost in the possibilities/options because of Omnistudio vs. standard etc.

This help article references three different types of Salesforce document generation

  • Salesforce Document Generation (Standard)
  • Omnistudio Document Generation with Omnistudio Managed Package
  • Vlocity Document Generation with CME, INS Managed Package

Before I get too far, I want to try to figure out which route comes with our plan (Education Cloud Einstein One Unlimited Edition). Based on the article, I'm thinking it's the first option, but the second one makes reference to industry licenses, so I'm a little lost. :D We are using the standard Omnistudio runtime (not managed package runtime).

Thanks!

Circling back on this post -- I've spent some time this week diving into both Salesforce Document Generation as well as the free managed package mentioned above. I have a sample use case working (an admissions acceptance/rejection letter) using both tools and would be happy to share more info with anybody eager to learn more. I'd also love to hear about other folks' document generation use cases!

Note: I set up my Salesforce Document Generation template using OmniStudio data mappers and I haven't yet figured out how it works with Context Service, but that is next on my list.

While the free managed package from Dave Moudy works with SOQL and Apex, with a little bit of flow and Apex magic I also got it working with OmniStudio data mappers -- so it could be a good option for folks who already have OmniStudio licenses but don't want to be limited by the Salesforce Document Generation pricing (which seems a little confusing to me still). OmniStudio data mappers are a bit easier to maintain and update than Apex, so it could be a good option for folks with complex querying needs who don't want to update an Apex class whenever a template is updated with new or changed merge fields. I'll also do some work to prototype using Context Service with this app as well.

Feel free to respond or reach out to me if you have any questions -- I'm just starting to dive into this, but I would love to share more with anybody who's interested!
