Hello Tableau community,

Thank you for reading this. I am trying to calculate persistence in Tableau for 2nd semester, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. The formula is drawn from retention rates. Retention is how many students from first are retained at 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ect. Persistence then is semester to semester change. Persistence for 3rd semester = 3rd semester retention/2nd semester retention. Persistence for 4th semester=4th sem ret/3rd sem ret ....and so on.

In my data i have retention fields that are coded yes/no. I have tried creating a parameter for peristence and calculated fields but all i can get so far is retention that flips by parameter. I am interested in graphs like the ones i have for retention for persistence instead.

A sample workbook is attached.

Thanks for your help!

Also instead of looking persistence for all month, lets say I want to look at my current count of alarms 3 month ago.. what has still been persistant.

    For example:

    Current Alarm count: Country A

This here shows persistence in 14 month. So the narrative says that in February-18 you have 65 persistent alarms since Jan-17.

Currently I have persistence from all 14 month..  So if I filtered by [Alarm window] = 3 month it shows me the snapshot of 3 month but also shows the count of the previous month since these alarms have been persistent for 14 month.

How can I modify this to show the following:

If in Dec-17 I had 1,167 alarms.  How many are persistent in Feb-18.  So I have the full 14 month persistence as of now thanks to your logic. I want to be able to show persistence by:

    14 month

    13 month

    12month

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    2 Month.

    Thanks.
