Mulesoft U Development fundamentals Week 2 - Failed to deploy - Invalid type/Invalid array

Hello. In the second week of training, training-american-ws fails to deploy after completing Walkthrough 4-5. I am using the DerbyDB. This fails even after using the solution files provided by MuleSoft. I notice the errors "Invalid Array" and "Invalid type Object, expected String" in the console when starting the app. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
