I already created an anypoint account prior to signing up for the Mulesoft.U Development Fundamentals training and cannot create a new API in API manager. I have access to the business group that I originally created an anypoint account for, but I do not have access to the "Mule United Airport" business group. I cannot continue with the training and do not know how to get access to create new APIs.

As i can check, you are on Developer Portal.
You have to navigate to API Manager to add new API's.
Once you'll be in API Manager, you can see a Dashboard like below screen and a Add new API Button.
If still not abe to navigate through API manager Dashboard.
Logout and try Login on Anypoint Platform >>API Manager>>Add new API
