I get the following error 'java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException', any ideas what causes and how to fix ?

So, you are saying, the Studio produces this error in a separate dialog box while you are designing the app. If this happens repeatedly, try exporting your current project first, then create a new workspace and import your previously exported project into this new workspace. See if that fixes the issue. If you still see the same issue, you may be right on Studio not properly being installed. In which case, simply download the latest Studio zip file and unzip into a new directory and start using that.
