We have a new requirement to add a field called "reason lost" which would be a multi-select picklist (msp). As we know a baby seal dies whenever we use an MSP but what is another way to accomplish this? We want the user to add all the reason(s) they lost the deal.

Yeah, that's correct.
This way we can easily do counts of reasons and you can add any grouping you want from the parent opp or account (this client likes to compare loss reason by region e.g. NAMR, EMEA)
