Hi,
We're a humanetarian organisation and the way we operate is that besides the standard fundraising & philanthropy, we have a lot of funds comping from governmental agencies in the form of grants. When it comes to our programing, we majoritarily work with local partners or local charities that will deliver the service for us where we don't have a local office, and where we have a local office, it might be a mix of office and partners delivering the programs. Either way, we mostly are interested in tracking how the funds have been used, where, when and have some high level reporting to do, regardless of where funds are coming from.
A lot of what we capture in our systems is related to governmental acrediation requirements, all due dilligence processes prior to offering funding to a specific program and during the program assumimg it is a multi year process.
With that in mind, I am wondering if grantmaking is the right tool for us or not and if so, how much of what we would be doing would be OOB?
We would like to:
- Track gvt grants pipeline inc if we should respond (go/no-go process)
- When responded and won, track when funds are coming and reporting obligations
- Manage awarding of programs to partners
- Manage ongoing lifecycle of programs such as yearly due dilligence, track funds disbursment, track time spent on program, etc
- Manage partners relationships, which consistes in a few yearly meetings, tracking how we can help, and lot of due dilligence processes (some every years, 3 years or 5 years) and capture of qualitative and quantitative information on a semi regular basis (6 month or so)
My gut feel at this stage is that grantmaking might be helpful with point 3 but given that it is rarely a competitive process, I don't know how useful it would be to have a portal, but the rest is largely customisation / config of standard salesforce.
Keen to hear people's view on wheather I should pursue grantmaking for our case or not bother?
Thanks!
@arnaud charlier - Had this one bookmarked and meant to reply earlier. Busy week!
For these two:
- Track gvt grants pipeline inc if we should respond (go/no-go process)
- When responded and won, track when funds are coming and reporting obligations
You can track them with the native Opportunity features - which both NPC and NPSP have so NPC will be fine here.
For these two:
- Manage awarding of programs to partners
- Manage ongoing lifecycle of programs such as yearly due dilligence, track funds disbursement, track time spent on program, etc
I think you are correct that NPC Grantmaking will be more than you need. If you are not doing an entire application process, you could go with the free Outbound Fund Module, which does work with NPC. There's a group on here for it. It's free. It has a Requirements object & Disbursements. Time spent on program you'd need to add a custom bit for. If you went with NPC Grantmaking, it can do this as well, again with the time spent on program being custom fields or object, depending on how extensive that is.
For this last bit:
- Manage partners relationships, which consists in a few yearly meetings, tracking how we can help, and lot of due diligence processes (some every years, 3 years or 5 years) and capture of qualitative and quantitative information on a semi regular basis (6 month or so)
NPC can do these. You could track via Account relationships and Activities or go with a more in depth structure with Interactions, Interaction Summaries, & Interaction Attendees. For due diligence - Action Plans or a custom object depending on your needs. Or, if you go with Outbound Funds, the Requirement object in that package or Requirements in NPC - again if extensive, may need to customize more.
For qualitative & quantitative info - lots of choices there and what you pick will depend on what you're gathering. You could go with a form tool (if needed) and use the Outcomes Management feature in NPC. If you do end up going with Experience Cloud, you could do the Dynamic Assessment Framework in NPC- though that does involve OmniStudio so it will be more complex to set up. You could go with something custom as well.
Note that Foundation Connect mentioned elsewhere in the thread is not a viable choice- it's end of life and will be discontinued in 2025. It's no longer sold.
