I am working on an project which involves migrating SAP Material master to Salesforce products. I have two question and appreciate any feedback.
1. SAP Material master has more than 3 million records and the business ask his to move all of them to salesforce. Has any one loaded such volume in Product2 table. The salesforce documentation suggests to use less than 2 million of optimum performance
2. SAP Material master has product hierarchy. It can go up to 3 levels. Other than product to product lookup has any one tried a option to bring in this information and display it logically in Salesforce
Assuming the SAP system is sized properly you should be able to get quite fast responses from SAP. The main killer would be how you actually call SAP; going through most middlewares will add significant overhead to the roundtrip.
Vigience Overcast provides a very optimized approach: we typically achieve sub-second response times in our customer environments, and many of our customers leverage Overcast to virtualize such relationships (Product hierarchies, customer/BP hierarchies, non-hierarchical many-to-many relationships between customers/BPs) instead of trying to fit the square peg of SAP's complex data model into the round hole of Salesforce's much more simple one.
Have a look at https://www.vigience.com for more details, and let me know if you'd like to have a quick call to discuss how we can help you.
