Enhanced Domains Enforcement Postponed to Spring ’23 for Production Orgs

Who does this affect? Customers with orgs created before Summer ’22 who haven't enabled enhanced domains.

When are enhanced domains enforced? Enforcement of the Enable Enhanced Domains release update in production orgs is postponed to Spring '23. To get the major release upgrade date for your instance, go to Trust Status, search for your instance, and click the maintenance tab. The enforcement in sandbox orgs and free orgs remains as Winter ’23, and you can optionally postpone the enforcement date to Spring '23 within the My Domains setup page. It’s best to test and enable Enhanced Domains well before the enforcement date.

What did we do? To give customers more time to test, we postponed the enforcement of enhanced domains in production orgs from Winter ’23 to Spring ’23. The enforcement remains as Winter '23 in free orgs and sandboxes, and an optional org-level option exists to postpone such orgs' enforcements to Spring ’23.

We’re updating the documentation and release update over the next several weeks to reflect this change.

Why are we postponing enforcement? Google recently postponed the date when third-party cookies will be blocked in Chrome to late 2023. The timeline when other vendors intend to fully block third-party cookies in their browsers is a driving factor in the selection of our enforcement date.

Because Google postponed, we can give our customers more time to test and deploy this important security feature.

How can a sandbox or free org have its enforcement postponed to Spring 23? As of Summer '22, sandbox and free orgs can enable the “Postpone the enforcement of enhanced domains until Spring ’23” setting in the My Domain Setup page to delay the enforcement to Spring ‘23. That setting is already enabled in all production orgs on Summer '22.

In new and refreshed sandboxes, the “Postpone the enforcement of enhanced domains until Spring ’23” setting is automatically enabled when the sandbox’s source org’s “Use enhanced domains by default in new and refreshed sandboxes” setting isn’t enabled.

Orgs that have Enhanced Domains enforced with the Winter ’23 release can continue to turn off Enhanced Domains from the My Domain setup page, though that ability gets removed with the Spring ’23 release. Orgs that have Enhanced Domains enforced with the Spring ’23 release won’t be able to turn off Enhanced Domains in Spring ’23. We recommend migrating to Enhanced Domains before the enforcement date.
