Wrong Record Type being created when user converts lead to CSM

When user converts a lead over to a member of the the other team(both US and CAN) it is defaulting to a Subcontractor record type opportunity. However this should be defaulting to either  CMDCAN Retention Sales Record Type OR Retention Opportunity.
