I added a few custom fields to the Opportunity and mapped them to the Payment object via NPSP Settings. Nice feature thanks. One field, Schedule Date, allowed me to map it but when adding a donation afterward, I get an error:
Error Type: System.QueryException
Error Date: 2015-08-18 22:18:41
Message: "duplicate field selected: npe01__Scheduled_Date__c"
any ideas why that's happening?

You won't be able to do a custom mapping to that field. Check out this conversation for more detail https://powerofus.force.com/0D58000002FF4Fe For best results so you don't run into future errors like this, map your Opportunity fields to your own custom fields on Payment. With the standard NPSP fields you're always running in to the chance of this error as it's used for other purposes.
