I'm trying to create a report (and ultimately a dashboard component) that compares our total number of donors this year vs last year vs two years ago. If I create an opportunities report, then donors with multiple gifts in a year get counted more than once and if I create an accounts report, I can't figure out how to add last years and two years ago as separate donors. Just to note, if donor X donates in 2019 and 2018, we'd want her to get counted as a donor each year. Any ideas?

The power of one is a great trick. Another way to do this is, especially if this is something you report on often, is to use NPSP customizable rollups to calculate the number or total amount of gifts an account gave in a FY or CY.
