@Anna Bailey Good Question! The only impact I can think of that this would have on data storage is that you would actually end up with fewer records for Opportunity Contact Roles since the process Vanessa describes in her post would essentially delete any OCRs that are associated with contacts that don't meet an organization's criteria for getting a soft credit for a donation.
