I don't understand what is wrong with it. The data type is date, the label is Target Close date, the API name is Target_Close_Date__c. What am I missing in this?

just check if you provided FLS , field level security to all the profiles.
if that field doesn't have access to profiles., the trailhead test script cannot validate if the field exists or not.
