Unrestricted Picklists with Record Types

When using Record Types, we're finding that for a Picklist that we've unselected the "Restrict picklist to the values defined in the value set", and added to a layout, our users can't add additonal picklist values.

 

It makes sense since all of the Record Types share the same Picklist Value Set. 

 

But if only one of the Record Types use that field, it seems the users still can't add values to the Picklist.

 

Am I missing a step in configuring the picklist or record type?

    Hi Jay,

     

    Unticking the above box does not allow the user to type in their own value in the picklist. Instead, it allows mechanisms such as process builder, code, integrations, data imports, custom UIs, and more to set values there that are not defined in the schema.

     

    If you want to add some sort of "Other" field, you cannot do it using the standard page layout.
