Email Alerts

I'm trying to make an email alert and use the opportunity object. I added a custom email field on the opportunity (formula field with data type email) that pulls the email from the person account. When I try to use Email Field for the recipient type, there are no choices for available recipients. I've tried looking up why this is but couldn't find anything.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or any possible workarounds?
