Contact Matching in Lightning Sync

Question

Does anyone have information regarding additional fields that are used to match contacts in Outlook and Salesforce beyond Contact Name, Email Address, Company?   We have a scenario where large numbers of contacts have been created for users that don't have an Outlook Configuration set up but they do belong to a group that has a Profile associated to Ligthning Sync.  I am hypothesizing that this is the potential cause, but there are duplicate contacts being created and not matched to.  Thanks in advance

Outlook group is the best group to answer your question(s).
