If they click the "new" or "edit" buttons, they get you don't have access error BUT if they click the pencil icon to edit it gives a "insufficient access rights on object id" error message.
I changed object permissions and the Community user profile and edit/create/read access to the custom object.
Everything works fine if you're a standard or admin user/license so I think the issue is specific only to the Community user licenses.
Any ideas?

A community license works like a standard Salesforce internal license: external users with a member-based license
(that is, a license that is assigned to a specific user) are able to access a community as many times as they want.
