We are a SAAS platform where we have a Free subscription plan, and we also offer some products for free to selected users.
Is there a way for us to e.g. add a FREE price or pricing when we convert from a lead to opportunity?
I have already seen this (https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewSolution?id=000004928&language=en_US)possibility. But which is the most optimum way?
I would love to hear from other SaaS companies.

Opportunitities created during Lead Convert do not have any Products associated with them. You could add a Free Product to your PriceBook so your Reps can add that to the Opp.
A free product doesn't have any impact on a SaaS company since there is no revenue associated with it. Free is handled the same no matter what your licensing scheme is.
