This year we are replacing Zuora Quotes/360 with some successor TBD. We're currently talking to Salesforce about CPQ, but we may get priced out of it. Our products are subscription-based, where subscriptions get amended and renewed throughout the year.

I'm having a hard time imagining how we might be able to create something with our existing org that could support our needs. The native Quote object is pretty rudimentary, and I see no sensible way to even bring products over from opportunity to contract (which we intend to start using). In short, I don't see a solution that could be easily created from the off-the-shelf objects in Salesforce.

Does anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for any insights you could provide.

You could create your own set of objects and automations to support subscriptions, amendments, renewals, etc., but it would be a very large project. And definitely not one I would recommend. There are so many scenarios to consider, pricing considerations, proration, etc.

Native quotes don't support your use case, which was a big driver for Salesforce acquiring CPQ (Steelbrick). CPQ supports all of those use cases, so that's the route I would recommend. But CPQ licenses are expensive, so I understand that being a deciding factor.
