Can the new owner of an opportunity be the person that converted it, not the lead owner?

We recently made some changes to our Salesforce org, which transferred all open leads to me (I am our Company's Administrator).  Now when a lead is converted, I am automatically assigned as the Opportunity owner.  I know this can be changed manually, but is there a way to make the person who converted the Opportunity owner automatically?

    Instead of assigning the leads to a User (yourself) you should consider assigning them to a Queue. A queue is essentially an unassigned lead and any queue members can work an item owned by the queue. When they go to convert the lead it will require them to enter a record owner as queues cannot own accounts/contacts or opportunities.
