Delete duplicate opportunity or create new stage name?

I'm looking for best practices when there are duplicate opportunities. I'm thinking about creating a new stage called "Merged with Another Opportunity" because I don't like to delete opps in SFDC but I need a way to filter out things from won and close rate reports.  However, I'm not sure if this will cause other issues down the line or what the best way to handel this is. What's your advise?

    That way works just as well and others you'll get. Just ensure proper documentation around the opp stage and reporting and you should be golden
