Customers are able to register for a self-service Portal. They apply through a Marketo Form, and their information is sent to both the Portal team, who verifies they are customers and links their Portal account with their Customer Number AS WELL AS Marketo syncs with Salesforce and sends their info there as well. FYI, the Portal is a standalone, homegrown system that doesn't connect with Marketo or Salesforce. Its output is an Excel sheet with the enrollee information.
New enrollees who are not currently Contacts filter out as Leads in Salesforce thanks to the Marketo sync. But since ONLY Customers enroll in the Portal, they're not Leads and need to be associated with their correct Account.
What's the best way to mass convert Leads to Contacts and associate those Contact with the correct Accounts? My thought process is the enrollee information needs to come from one source--Marketo or the Portal (manual), but not both. I'm trying to design a process that's as automated as possible, but with the wildcard Portal, that may not happen.
Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

We have built a free AppExchange app that will relate Leads to accounts based on a match between the email address domain of the Lead and the website domain of the Account. It also contains a way for the user to mass convert the Leads from the Account page - no limits, no paid version, completely free application: https://bluninjas.com/convert-leads-from-account-page
