Updating a number field from adding two formula fields via a process

I have a process that updates a number field from adding two formula fields from a related object. The process itself is running and updating the field but the value that coming through is way out. I remember reading somewhere that it reads the formula rather than the value so my first question is is there a way of pulling the calculated value? Almost like a "paste special" in excel?

 

The record itself is made up of a maze of formula fields and calculations as its pricing model so the formula fields im referencing to add up are also referencing other formula fields. I can provide some more details but wondered if the first part of my question might solve my issue?

    Hi Alastair,

    Just want to confirm - is this being attempted with process Builder or a workflow rule ?

     

    Process Builder should let you add the values of two formula fields together to update a third Number field's Value in a field update when a process runs.

     

    Some screen-shots might help to determine where it's failing but if you're calculating a number for "A" and then calculating a number for "B" and just using a formula to calculate A + B, then that's not out of the ordinary...unless the cross-object aspect is somehow messing it up.
