I am using SF Professional edition. Is there any way we can restrict the update of a field for e.g "Account name" to only System Admins so that all users can not edit/update this field?
Please do let me know how this can be done?

PE might not let you have access to that. Use the handy dandy Insert Field option to see if it's there. Profile will be it's own category. If it's not then use $User.ProfileId and go get the ID for your Admin profile.
