Process builder vs. workflow for updating a field

I have courses that people sign up for and am trying to determine if I need to use a workflow of process builder.  When I create a course I have a field called "Status of Course Event", with four picklist values, Active, Pending, Cancelled, Closed. 

 

When the event is created I would like the "Status of Course Event" default value to be Pending, when the Start date occurs I would like the "Status of Course Event" to automactically change to Active.  Then when the End date has passed I would like to "Status of Course Event" to change to Closed.

 

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

    Hi Robin,

     

    U can use anything workflow or process builder but ull need to use Time Based Workflow and Actions or Time Based Actions in the Process Builder. Basically Ull need to use Ur Date Field (Start Date) and then say 0 days after Start Date Action will be Change Status to Active..

     

    2)0 Days After End Date : Action Will be Change Status to Closed..

     

    Lemme know if that worked or if u have any questions..

     

    U can also check ur Time Based Qureue under Monitor>Time-Based Workflow> to see which records are gonna trigger the workflow
