I would like to "pin" the page open, so I can click on an account from the report list, work on it, then go back to Reports page and work on next account.

Salesforce doesn't have a native way to force links in a report to open in a new window. Easiest way is to right click the link, and open it in a new window or tab. Or if you've got a scroll wheel on your mouse, those can be configured to open links in a new tab/window when you use the scroll wheel to click.
