Is it possible to temporarily let sales reps share account access?

There is a sales rep that is on vacation and another rep filling in for him, and needs access to the rep's accounts.  I believe I heard/read that it's possible for the sales manager to allow temporary access, but I'm not sure how it's done.

    Is it for all of a reps accounts to be assigned to another rep temporarily? One way could be to export the Account ID's of all of Rep1's accounts. Use demand tools or another tool to change the owner of the Account records to Rep2. Then when Rep1 returns from vacation re-run the tool changing the owner of those accounts back to the original Rep.
