why can't I in-line edit this list view?

Question

I have a custom list view for contacts and I can in-line edit fields no problem. I have a list view for Opportunities but am not able to in-line edit any of the fields???

If you are using record types for opportunities then your criteria for the list view must state that you only want opportunities or a single record type.    Most times - that's the problem.
