Searching for contact from Home tab comes back that it doesn't exist as its only searching in certain fields.

Some of our users can't search for contacts because when they do it tells them they do not exists but in all reality they are a contact in Salesforce.  When looking at this closer I noticed that off to the left it only shows that it was searching in Accounts and Content.  If we then hit the Search All button it will find the contact.

 

How to I change this so when they do the original search from the home tab, it will search under the contact section?

    Once Salesforce notices that you are clicking through to Contact search it will start including them.

     

    You can also specify to "Pin" certain objects to the top of search results

    Not searching all objects automatically just allows for better search performance
